August 2014 – Craig Clayton choose the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Craig told us “In March of this year, my family was rocked when our youngest son, Camden, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. There is no prevention or cure for Type 1 diabetes. It is an autoimmune disorder that causes his pancreas to no longer function correctly – no diet plan, exercise program, or lifestyle change will make it start working again. We plan each day and activity around trying to keep his blood sugar balanced, as it is affected by insulin, food, physical activity, his sleep schedule, illness, and growth spurts.
JDRF has been a very supportive organization. From the minute my son left the hospital, they have had representatives reaching out to help us. We have learned about some of the new and promising research to help him with his condition. We have found support groups and individuals in our community that are dealing with the same struggles. I am hopeful for a cure in the near future and I believe that JDRF will be leading the way.”
